Never enter your AO3 password on a random mirror or unlocker. Desktop tools run on your machine; this website never asks for your password.
When AO3 is back up
- Confirm status on transformativeworks.org — not from a stranger’s “mirror.”
- If you reused your AO3 password elsewhere, finish changing those passwords first.
- For full fic backup, start with ao3downloader (see also backup guide and homepage Path A).
- For a link / CSV list, use export public bookmarks to CSV. Private bookmarks need a local userscript or a login-capable desktop tool.
- Go slow. Respect rate limits so AO3 stays usable for everyone.
Quick FAQ
Are my bookmarks deleted?
Usually not. Outages and security recoveries take time. OTW is the source of truth. Tools simply can’t see bookmarks while the site is unreachable.
Can I use a mirror site?
Be extremely careful. Fake mirrors often phishing for passwords. Stick to official OTW announcements. This guide does not list unofficial mirrors.
Should I install something “now”?
You can read READMEs and bookmark GitHub releases. Installing is fine if you trust the original project — but you still can’t finish a live download until AO3 answers.
